I like the idea of giving rebates and subsidies to make houses more energy efficient and other things to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. Why doesn't the federal government put up it's own solar, wind, and hydro farms on federal/military lands and sell the power back to utility companies. This would provide a long term income for the federal government to help shore up social security, reduce taxes, better our education system, etc. The possibilities are endless. We would increase our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil and provide a cleaner environment for our children's future. Read More »

ALL IN FOR ALTERNATIVE ENERGY

Posted by Wishard 546 days ago (Suggestion)
Many people believe that there is a single alternative energy technology that will solve our energy problems in the future. This is not the case. Fossil fuels be it coal or oil or gas or nuclear are the only fuels that we can use reliably on a 24 hour a day 7 days a week 365 days a year basis. This is because the sun only shine during the day. The wind blows at irregular and unpredictable times, and hydro electric damns are subject to seasonal rainfall. But put them all together and you have an alternative energy system that compliments itself. A massive amount of redundancy is required to make this alternative viable. Electricity is expensive to store on a large scale, so it must be constantly produced 24/7/365. Fortunately peek hours are daytime and summer time. This is when solar elect Read More »
By building hundreds of wind farms throughout the United States, as they do in Europe, not only creates thousands of jobs in the immediate future, but also reduces our overseas reliance on oil and other energy needs.
This should be a priority. Read More »
Mr President:
I'd be remiss if I didn't inform the country's leader of a sustainable heating technique usable in all US climates: annualized geo-solar. Use a heat collector(such as a roof, greenhouse, or sunroom) to convert solar energy into heat(thermal energy), then store the heat in a very large thermal mass, usually the dirt under the building. This heat is used to warm the building during the winter. This passive solar design is not disrupted by daily light conditions such as clouds. Government must take the lead in utilizing this energy resource. Our national budget can't afford to not use as much of this free energy as is practable. It also allows us to use our oil for other things like plastics, vehicle fuel, and medicines.

Energy Savings for Nation and Families

Posted by DonGulledge 510 days ago (Suggestion)
As a homeowner, I would like to add Geothermal heating to
my home to make it much more efficient and cost less to heat and cool.

The problem is that it cost way too much to have it done.
The equipment cost and the cost of the drilling for the pipes makes it too much that I can never see a return on the investment.

With all the construction guys out of work, and all the guys drawing unemployment, and all the construction equipment that's idle, I would think a WWW style program
to do low cost Geo thermal systems for homeowners would be
the best thing we could do. The homeowner could afford
to pay/borrow the money required for the equipment/ducting cost while the program would offset the drilling and implementation cost.

This would make our overall energy cost go down and c Read More »
