I was laid off and applied for unemployment online. After WEEKS of hearing nothing back, I finally went to the office and it was expedited much faster. Wasn't the whole point of putting it online to streamline the process?

Really, don't you think that we would all have daily jobs if there wasn't so much importing? There used to be a time where you can go to many industrial parks and get a job, learn a trade, now there is nothing. Everything is moved over seas and I don't understand why it is not those companies that are taxed hard when they do/did this, so that they stay here and create jobs for us HERE. To me it's simple, buy American as best you can, tell those companies overseas that if they want our money to bring their business here and hire people here. Otherwise, tax those companies more, not the ones that provide employment for us in the USA.

The unemployment rate is at it's highest and it's more and more difficult to FIND a job. If we can "bail out" the car industry, the bank (who took OUR money and went on vacations and had huge bonuses given to them) then we need to do the same for our unemployed. Help them until they find a job, educate those that need to be. Programs for offenders that are finding it hard to find a job would be good- some of these people did wrong years ago and are still being penalized as if the crime was being committed today. Help our people - in the USA.

Unemployed. Bills considerably outweigh income now. Credit card debt being let go right now to afford house payment. One vehicle repossession so far with an outstanding balance left of 11,000.00. What is being done to help people like us so the next thing is not our house? We have 3 young boys ages 10, 11, and 13. I am 53 years old and not exactly in the shape for construction jobs or exactly appealing to the jobs market right now due to my age. What is it I'm supposed to look forward to??

Roosevelt learned in the 1930's that government funded construction projects does not reduce unemployment. Bank and store clerks are not trained to do the construction jobs that will be needed such as carpenters, welders, cement workers, truck drivers, etc. After twelve years of government funding the unemployment rate was 9.5% when WWII started. We will need heavy training for the current unemployed.

If American companies were to stop outsourcing jobs to India and other countries, just think how many American's could get jobs in the United States. The Government should make companies that outsource jobs pay higher taxes. Yvonne

I just wanted to take this opportunity to voice my opinion, something that I rarely do, about the issue of whether or not the US Government should offer assistance/ financial aid to immigrants. The US Government has its' hands full already with its' own citizens. Why assist immigrants, when the people here in the US are living in great desperation???
The government has to take extreme and proper measures to come up with a master solution to bail its' own people out of trouble.--- The following is a perfect, sad but very true situation. On Tue, 2/17/09, @dolir.mo.gov> wrote:

The "Free Trade" agreement is what got us in this mess to begin with !!!! It isn't "Free" to us !!! The greedy companies are sending our jobs along with their products to be made in other countries, mostly China, & then bringing them back to sell them to us & count all the MONEY they have made !!! They should start having to pay all the fees that the counties don't have to pay & then maybe they would bring the jobs back here where they belong !!! Does anyone realize that there is not one small appliance made in the USA ??? I understand that we need global trade but not all our jobs too !!! As bad as it is right now, Hershey's are sending 300 jobs to Mexico as we speak ! Also, Lazy-boy is or has sent their furniture to China to be made !! How many more jobs can we afford to lose al

If you have decided to buy a property for the first time, then the chances are that you are looking for a good deal on a mortgage. However, as a first time buyer who has never dealt with mortgages before it may be the case that you are not actually sure what a good deal on a mortgage would actually be, and which mortgage you should opt for.

Consider providing tax incentives for companies and institutions to retain or hire older workers rather than to reduce overall labor cost by eliminating them from consideration for employment opportunities or their current employment jobs. Companies and institutions tend (find ways) to terminate or layoff older workers to reduce their overall compensation costs (salary, bonus, commissions, benefits, etc.). Many of these workers are competent and hold special experiences and skills that otherwise would help the company reduce costs and increase revenue. It is difficult for companies to determine qualified versus unqualified older workers, but if the tax incentives rules are constructed properly, qualified older workers will not be terminated just to reduce the bottom line costs.

Curently many senior citizens are warehoused in nursing homes and give about a dozen drugs. A few of these drugs are psych drugs with outragous prices billed to medicare, and I can tell you as a pharmacist that most should not be given.
Stop this needless precribing, and use the money to pay unemployed people to take care of the seniors in the seniors own home. The state laws regarding the elderly are geared to force them into nursing homes to use them as cash cows for drug companies, and health care corporations.
Call me, I will tell you all about it. Easily 800 dollars a month per senior could shift to employment. Internet hookups with live webcam to doctor/nurse to monitor senior health, and online education to unemployed worker to help in patiet care.
Please heed Bob Herbert's editorial on unemployed middle class and speak out.....take whatever actions you can take.
Yours with continued hope, MS

I have been searching for a new job for quite some time now, and with the education needed, but lacking in direct experience. If the employers would receive a tax incentive to train for their specific need it would help a lot of us get jobs. We are educated and experienced, but not in all of the requirements of the job.
